That Game of Thrones Prequel series that has been bandied about for a couple of years is still in development, according to HBO.

CBR:

While there is still no definite news yet, HBO’s President of Programming Casey Bloys has confirmed that the network is still actively involved in talks with author George R.R. Martin about a possible follow-up series to their massively popular TV show “Game of Thrones.”

Bloys comments were reported by Entertainment Weekly and came as part of an interview linked to the recent announcement that “Westworld” “Insecure” and “Divorce” have all been renewed for second seasons. Bloys said “I would say [the spinoff is] still kind of [in] preliminary ongoing talks, there are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to any one and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’”

In the same interview Bloys remained cagy as to how many episodes would be in “Game of Thrones” eighth season. Apparently no final total has yet been set or agreed upon, but the HBO chief did say, “I’ll take as much as we can get.”

“Game of Thrones” returns to HBO for its truncated seven-episode seventh season on April 21, 2017.
