Alison Brie joins female-wrestling series from ‘Orange is the New Black’ creator

Back in May, Netflix confirmed that it had ordered a new series from Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan based on a group of real-life female wrestlers from the ‘80s. Now, Variety is reporting that Alison Brie, best known for her role as A-student Annie on Community, has joined G.L.O.W as one of the main characters.
Based on the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, otherwise known as G.L.O.W, a Los Angeles-based group of amateur female wrestlers in the ‘80s, the show will follow the founding, height and eventual collapse of the group. Brie will play an out-of-work actress who sees G.L.O.W as her last chance to make a name for herself and attract the attention of a Hollywood executive.
Brie — who also works on another Netflix exclusive series, BoJack Horseman — has never worked with Kohan. The series marks the return of Brie to television as a series regular, however, following the end of Community in 2015. Brie is also involved in a couple of feature films that are scheduled to start production later in the year and early next year.
Netflix has yet to set a release date for the first season of G.L.O.W, but it will carry 10 episodes instead of the service’s usual 12 or 13.
