If Superman doesn’t rock a fucking mullet with his black-as-fuck Superman Lives costume, it’s all for nothing. Nothing.

Polygon:

Henry Cavill, the actor who has played Superman in director Zack Snyder’s superhero movies, will reprise his role in Justice League, which may seem odd to those who watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice considering how that ended.

Spoiler alert: This post will contain spoilers for the ending of Batman v Superman and possible spoilers for Justice League.

At the end of Batman v Superman, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Lois Lane (Amy Adams) can be seen at the funeral of their fallen friend, Clark Kent (Cavill), otherwise known as Superman. For all intents and purposes, Superman was dead, but following the casting announcement of Justice League, it’s clear he’s coming back. Today, Cavill posted a photo on his Instagram account of his new suit — a black suit.
For fans, this was the confirmation they needed that Justice League was going to take some of its inspiration for Superman from “The Death of Superman” comic mini-series, which ran between 1992 and 1993. It was during this time that Superman died in a battle with Doomsday (sound familiar?) and readers had to go through four iterations of the hero until the real Superman returned, donning a black suit.

It’s unclear if the new Superman will be a hero or a villain, though. In the comics, Superman is mostly unchanged, but there have been references to a more tyrannical version of the character as seen in flashbacks in Batman v Superman. For now, however, it looks like this is the path that Snyder and the creative team at Warner Bros. are going to go down for Justice League.

Justice League will hit theaters Nov. 17, 2017.
