Sci-Fi writer John Scalzi signs 13 book, 10 year, $3.4M deal.

John Scalzi

I haven’t read any John Scalzi. And I know that’s probably a personal flaw. But I love any renowned sci-fi writer in this day and age scoring those kind of lucrative contract. Rock on, Scalzi. Keep up the good fight. #PlatitudePlatitude

Boing Boing:

A decade after Tor published his first novel, Scalzi’s committed to writing 10 adult and 3 young adult novels for Tor over the next ten years.

Included in the deal are a new series, as well as sequels to Lock-In and Old Man’s War.

This. Is. Great.

Gooooooooo SCALZI!

Patrick Nielsen Hayden, the executive editor for Tor, said the decision was an easy one. While Mr. Scalzi has never had a “No. 1 best seller,” he said, “he backlists like crazy.”

“One of the reactions of people reading a John Scalzi novel is that people go out and buy all the other Scalzi novels,” Mr. Nielsen Hayden said.

He said Mr. Scalzi sells “a healthy five-figure number of his books every month,” and that he “hasn’t even begun to reach his full potential audience.”
