Patton Oswalt would write ‘Spider-Man’ as Bansky the Tech Socialist

Patton's take.

Cheers to Daniel Heard! The friend of the site and nauseatingly talented illustrator passed along this little morsel. Patton Oswalt recently cut a podcast with the Nerdist where he discussed what he would do with the Spider-Man movie franchise. Oh, and he also revealed that he did some script punch-up on ASM2.

Daniel’s Words To Your Brain, Bro:

Starting at 44:45 (caff: link here) he gets asked what he would do with the franchise.

First he reveals he did script “punch-up”. “Sorry people I really tried”. This is by itself cool information that’s not really publicly known.

Second: How to fix the franchise 46:00 “[Spider-Man] should be the Banksy of the marvel universe, and give his tech away upsetting the balance” He goes on about it till 47:10 where he just yells “Banksy!”

It’s a pretty good listen. Coming out of Amazing Spider-Man 2, all I could mutter was “burn it down, burn it down!” And so I’ve desperately hoped that Marvel Studios could pull off at least mutual-control of the franchise. Whatever they come up with (you’d think) would have to be better than the Hallucinatory GrimDark vomit that Sony peddled last year.

Explaining his take, Oswalt calls him the “pathologically positive” character whose tales take place in the daylight. Perfect. Like, I don’t know how I would handle it, but I’m down with Oswalt’s take.

How about you? Are you interested in the Lord of Geeks take on Spider-Man? What would your take be?
