Geoff Johns: DC’s TV and Movie Universes ain’t the same thing
Geoff Johns has come out and confirmed what I kind of assumed to be obvious: DC’s movie and television universes are not one entity. Which really smacks of a good thing for those of you who enjoy The Green Arrow Guy and are anticipating Flashman. Keep that Snyder and Goyer cynicism far away from your beloved bitties.
If you were hoping to see Arrow‘s Stephen Amell make an appearance as the emerald archer in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice or in the upcoming Justice League movie, DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has some bad news for you.
“We will not be integrating the film and television universes,” he said at the Television Critics Association press tour for The Flash. Seems pretty cut and dried.
Johns elaborated a bit, saying that TV has its own production team and movies have their own production teams. “It’s a separate universe than film so that the filmmakers can tell the story that’s best for film,” he said. “While we explore something different in a different corner of the DC universe.”
Not only that, but some of DC’s characters are reserved for movies, Johns said. Batman and Superman simply won’t be showing up on TV, at least not on The Flash or Arrow. (Yes, a 10-year-old Bruce Wayne will be on Gotham, but he doesn’t seem to count.) Lots of other DC characters will, though. For example, Wonder Woman could potentially be a TV character again at some point, CW President Mark Pedowitz said, on the condition that the script is right.
Of course, the separation between the movie and TV universes isn’t quite as sharp as it may seem. DC’s (apparently accurate) movie plan includes a Flash and Green Lantern team-up, so at the very least there will be a Flash of Two Media. And one would think a Green Arrow cameo at the very least is on the way in film.
