NETFLIX talks s**t about VERIZON streaming quality. VERIZON files cease & desist.

Netflix.

OHHH, get your fucking POPCORN. There’s a pretty awesome MEGA-COMPANY slap fight going on right now. Earlier this week (I didn’t cover it I’m fucking sorry!) it was revealed that Netflix had trotted out a pretty awesome function. When Verizon was providing really fucking shitty streaming quality, The Flix would tell you. Like — don’t blame us, blame Verizon. Now a BUTT HURT VERIZON has filed a cease and desist.

Verizon has sent a cease and desist order to Netflix demanding that it stop presenting its subscribers with messages blaming Verizon’s network for poor streaming performance, according to CNBC. Netflix’s messages are meant to knock Verizon and other service providers that it alleges have been slowing streaming performance, either actively or through failing to properly maintain their networks.

“There is no basis for Netflix to assert that issues with respect to playback of any particular video session are attributable solely to the Verizon network,” Verizon’s letter reportedly reads.

After these messages caught wide attention yesterday, Verizon fired back at Netflix, calling the messages “inaccurate,” “misleading,” and a “PR stunt.” Verizon says instead that any issue in streaming quality is on Netflix’s end. In fact, both Verizon and Netflix are talking about the very same area of the network — the companies just don’t agree over who should be responsible for paying to maintain it. [The Verge]
