XBOX ONE ‘SEASON PASS GUARANTEES’ carries DLC ACROSS GENS. Dope ++

Good Guy Ballmer.

This is froggy fresh. One of the interesting things about this Fall is that titles are dropping across multiple generations. What if I buy Call of Duty: It’s A Doggy Dog Life on my 360, but then I snag an XBONE for Christmas? What will happen to all those wonderful maps I snagged? Microsoft? They’re actually doing me a fucking solid.

Microsoft is instituting a “Season Pass Guarantee” for games from select publishers that are launching both on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, the company announced on Xbox Wire today.

“With Season Pass Guarantee, you can purchase a Season Pass for a participating Xbox 360 title and automatically receive access to download the equivalent Xbox One Season Pass,” the blog post reads. It stipulates that the guarantee will be effective with the “biggest publishers,” naming Ubisoft, EA and Activision as a few of the partners in the deal. It also mentions that players must own the game on both consoles in order to transfer their season passes.

“Stay tuned as publishers and titles participating in the Season Pass program are announced in the coming months,” the post adds.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will allow this kind of season pass transfer across console generations so long as the transfer stays in the console family — Xbox 360 season pass owners will have their content transferred to Xbox One, and PlayStation 3 owners will have it moved to PlayStation 4. Whether this is part of the guarantee isn’t clear, but the principle is largely the same.

We have reached out to Sony to find out if they’ll have a similar program in place for PlayStation 4.
